Namahage Sedo Festival
One of the Michinoku Five Snow Festivals, Namahage Sedo Festival is held at Shinzn shrine in Oga City Kitaura District. The Namahage Sedo Festival is a combination of the Shinto “Saitousai” ritual held on January 3rd at Shinzan Shrine in Kitaura, Oga City and a traditional “Namahage” event begun in 1964 and held on the second Friday, Saturday and Sunday of February every year at Shinzan Shrine. This festival starts at the grounds of Shinzan Shrine. And in front of the Sedo fire, Namahage dance music created by Baku Ishii (modern dancer) and his son, Kan Ishii (composer), is played dynamically. Programs are normally same for the all three days, but some programs done by elementary school students is on the first date.
50min drive from Showa Oga Peninsula Interchange. Head to Oga Cape Nyudo and left turn at the Shinzan Shrine corner on Namahage Line. Parkings are available.
