Akita Oil Storage

You can visit the base if you apply in advance. A staff member will give you an explanation of each part of the base (it takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour).
It has 12 underground tanks, the largest in the world, and the size of these tanks is remarkable. If you're lucky, you can see the tank lid (which floats above the liquid level of the oil) down to the bottom. The depth of the base is 50 meters, and the amount of stockpiles at this base is equivalent to one week of consumption in Japan. The 99.9-meter-high wind turbine that generates its own power on the site (named after the legend of the 999 stone steps of Gosha-do) is a must-see because it is hard to see it up close.
You can learn the outline of the oil storage base, the oil storage base museum where you can learn about the mechanism of underground tanks, and the area where you can walk freely with a tennis court and a biotope park without applying in advance.
