Oga Pear
The Iriai district of Oga City is the biggest producer of Japanese pears in the northern Tohoku area, where varieties of Japanese pears such as Kōsui, Hōsui and Nansui. The Oga Pear Festival is held at the Iriai Chūsui Nashi Senkajo during every harvest. Additionally, Oga happens to be the northernmost point for harvesting Japanese pear. This allows for minimal pesticides and herbicides due to its cold climate. Japanese pear farmers conducted cooperative research regarding the modes of production and taste in order to acquire the brand that they currently have today.
