Northern limit of the Camillia Colony on Noto Mountain

The camellia colony on Noto Mountain in the camellia district was designated as a national natural monument in 1922 as the northern limit of the wilderness. In April, when the flowers are in full bloom, the deep red of the flowers and the green of the leaves remind us of a powerful spring. There is a story of tragic love told in Notozan. What's the story?
- Once upon a time, merchant ships were coming from the land of Kaga. One day, a young Noto sailor fell in love with the most beautiful and hardworking daughter in the village. But the young man is a sailor. He couldn't stay in the village long. So the young man left with the promise that he would come back in two years, and that he would surely bring the beautiful camellia fruit of his hometown to show them. My daughter waited. While looking forward to the day when I will meet the young people. But even after two years of promise, the youth did not come. My daughter began to think that the reason why the young people didn't come, even though she had sworn so firmly, must be because they had died in Namba. One day, in her third year of waiting, her daughter threw herself into the sea in grief... It wasn't long after that the young man came to the village again. In his grief, the young man climbed a rocky mountain in the village and sowed one camellia fruit after another, a promise they had made. The rocky mountain where the camellia flowers bloomed came to be called Notozan.
