Kashima Festival of Kitaura

A festvial to deify the God of Kitaura Kashima, held every year on July 14th. A God of Kashima is a fisherman's God in the Kitaura area, the festival prays for rich catch and safety in the ocean. A week before the festival a Kashima doll will be handed around each house, burdening bad fortune onto the doll. On the festival day, the doll will be rested on the Kashima boat, marched around the village, and finally floated 1.2km away from the port. If the doll washes up on a shore, it is said that the shore will be gifted with rich "Hatahata" catch. This festival is one of the valuable folk events in Oga.

Exiting Kitaura Shrine, Mikoshi and Kashima Boat will head down to Kitaura fishery port, heading out to the ocean.
