Ruins of Wakimoto Castle
The ruins of a medieval castle spread out on a hill about 100 meters above sea level above Oibanazaki, which juts out into the sea. Wakimoto Castle has been a key location for controlling the Oga Peninsula since ancient times, and was built by Aiki Ando, the ruler of the time, in 1577 (Tensho 5) during the Warring States period. With an area of about 140 hectares, it is said to be one of the largest in terms of scale in the Tohoku region. The ruins of the mountain castle, which is now designated as a national historic site, are a must-see for castle lovers.
