Ten Thousand Statues of Shinzan
There is a small hall on the slope to the Namahagekan and Shinzan Shrine. You will be amazed at the number of small Jizo bodhisattvas densely enshrined in the attic from three to four walls. There are 13,000 of them. It is said to have been made by Shinmei, a monk from the mid-Edo period. Shinmei is said to have carved Buddha statues to honor his beloved disciples who died unfortunately and to honor his children who passed away at an early age. It still attracts the thick faith of the people of the neighborhood.
